Description | KANDINSKI IMPROVISATION 19Speaking about the art of the 20th century, it’s impossible not to mention such a prominent figure as Wassily Kandinsky. Some critics agree that he was one of the first artists to create purely abstract works. What’s remarkable, he started painting at a fairly late age, when he was over 30. However, that didn’t prevent him from making a great contribution to modern art. His paintings play with color and shape allowing the viewer to come up with their own associations and interpret a work of art based on the emotions it brings up in them. This amazing replica of Kandiski’s painting called ‘Improvisation 19’ will create a bright focal point in any room and add a stylish touch to your interior making the guests wonder what is actually depicted on it. But before we try to find that out, let’s learn a few facts about the author.
Who is Wassily Kandinsky?
- The artist had a vast education; he studied law and economics and only after years of teaching decided to try something new - art. - According to Kandinsky, what lies in the heart of painting and every other kind of art is ‘inner necessity’ - devotion to beauty and spiritual thirst. - Kandisky had an interesting psychological condition called synethesia. That allowed him to ‘see’ music and ‘hear’ colors. No wonder his artworks are so expressive. The artist famously said that colors are the keys that touch the strings of the human soul. - If you look at Kandinsky’s paintings carefully, you’ll notice that they consist of a repeated pattern of circles, triangles and squares. He based his works on the principle of theosophy comparing the process of creation to geometrical progression.
Enigmatic silhouettes
This geometrical principle is clearly seen in the canvas before your eyes. What we can discern is a set of vague figures depicted in a multicolored background. Most of the picture is painted in blue with violet accents; however, there are also patches of red, yellow and green that make the composition more vivid. These colors gain a new meaning coupled with human silhouettes that we can rather guess than see since they are just black contours. On the right, there is a group of people with their heads turned towards the frame as if they wanted to leave the picture; on the left, the author added a few seemingly female silhouettes making gestures that are hard to recognize. Even more curious to imagine what the artist had in mind!
