Decorating Your Garden: 5 Basic Tips

How much thought have you put into designing your garden? Some people don’t care much about how their house looks outside. They simply mown their lawn and clip their rose bushes a few times a year. However, with a little effort, you can turn your backyard into a beautiful place looking no less amazing than those fairy tales gardens you see in the movies! Here are a few tips on how to do it right.

Your garden can be beautiful!

1. Plan it out

It may seem like an obvious thing to do, but it’s really important to approach your garden design with precision. When choosing garden decor, mind the outline of the land and think what you want to place in each area of the yard: barrier, shade, lounging, play, etc. Consider it to be a blank piece of paper that you should fill with various decor elements.

2. Use ornaments

It’s actually small things that define the way our garden looks and feels. If you want to create an inspiring atmosphere in your yard, consider using garden ornaments. Mark the entrance to your flower bed with a wrought-iron gate, hang a lantern on a tree or decorate your terrace with a curved bench rather than a usual one.

3. Repeat the interior of your home

Whatever style you used to design your interior, you can carry it into the garden harmonizing the whole ensemble. If your home has a rustic design, you can pick up the house’s stone in grass-covered pavers emphasizing the garden with iron urns on terra-cotta pedestals or a pediment supporting potted succulents.

4. Include fancy sculptures

Garden sculptures can add coziness and character to your backyard. Although they don’t perform any function, you shouldn’t overestimate their appeal. Decorating your garden, think of including a cat statue, angel sculpture or a simply a garden gnome to go for a homelier, trimmed look.

5. Don’t overdo it

The last tip is to stay reasonable while designing your garden space and stick with limited use of yard decor rather than putting it all over the area. Don’t go with too many different themes or colors to avoid oversaturation. Pick one style and let it inspire the whole scene.
