Five contemporary abstract paintings to think about

Contemporary painters tend to express their worldview via abstract art, because they prefer freedom of mind to strict images. They encourage you to deliberate on messages expressed through color and shape and try to get to the underlying concept. This article introduces five oil painting artists and their works that will change your vision of modern art.

 1.  Stallion by Shawn McNulty

The background of this abstract painting is blue, and you can see a thick black line in the middle of the canvas. There are plenty of small images located near the line, they are bright, but don’t contain any clear idea. Various patterns on the canvas seem to be added by stamping, for they are blurred and torn into small pieces, and you can’t actually say what they depict.

2.   Coastal Art by Megan Duncanson

A huge kite separates this canvas into two parts; one of them is in cold shades of blue while the other is of warm yellow and brown palette. You can observe five palm trees floating in the air, and on the marine side of the painting there is a volcano, meanwhile the right half depicts a couple of tall red buildings.

3.   Three Peppers by Linda Paul

This is a rather minimalistic painting, for it depicts only three peppers of red, yellow and green shades. They resemble three heroes, standing at the edge of a high mountain and watching the bright sunset. Of course, peppers are situated on the table, but abstract art is all about your imagination, so it’s up to you to decide what you see

4.   An Evening in the City by Christine Krainock

A couple is having a walk in the evening park, illuminated by numerous street lights. They seem to have escapeda huge party, for she is in evening dress, and the man is wearing a tuxedo. The scene takes place in the big city, and the tall sky-scrapers are everywhere in the background. The couple is dancing down the path covered in puddles, and there are splashes flying from their moves.

5.   Fancy Flight by Melissa McKinnon

What is this? Varicolored pills in a birch grove? Huge bacteria floating in the forest? This is a rather strange picture, but very appealing, and you can make your own deductions about those unusual objects.
